If you’re sending a document to another country, such as for a marriage, residency, adoption, business or real estate abroad, that country may require an apostille. Yuri Notary helps you get the document notarized correctly and guides you through the apostille steps so it isn’t rejected.
What Is an Apostille?
An apostille is a certificate that authenticates a public official’s signature, such as a notary’s, so the document is recognized in countries that are members of the Hague Apostille Convention. For countries that are not members, a different authentication and legalization process through the destination country’s embassy or consulate is usually required.
Where Apostilles Come From
- Nevada notarized documents (affidavits, powers of attorney, consent letters, business documents) are apostilled by the Nevada Secretary of State.
- Vital records such as birth, marriage and death certificates usually need a certified copy from the issuing agency, then an apostille from the Secretary of State of the state that issued it.
- Federal documents, such as FBI background checks, are authenticated by the U.S. Department of State.
