Guardianship of a Minor
Guardianships of minors are governed by NRS Chapter 159A. Families often seek them when parents are unavailable, deployed, incarcerated or otherwise unable to care for a child, or when a grandparent or relative is already raising the child.
Guardianship of an Adult
Adult guardianships are governed by NRS Chapter 159 and may cover the person, their estate or both. The court considers less restrictive alternatives, such as a power of attorney, before appointing a guardian.
