What to Bring to Your Notary Appointment

A little preparation makes your appointment quick and stress-free. Use this checklist before you meet with Yuri Notary in person, at your location or online.

Checklist for Every Appointment

  • Valid photo ID for every signer. Current, government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID card, passport or military ID. Expired IDs may not be accepted.
  • Your complete, unsigned document. Bring every page. Do not sign ahead of time. You’ll sign in front of the notary.
  • Every person who needs to sign. Each signer must be present (or on camera for remote sessions) and must have their own ID.
  • Any required witnesses. If your document requires witnesses, let us know when you book.
  • Know what notarization you need. If the document or the receiving agency specifies an acknowledgment or a jurat, tell us. A notary cannot choose the notarial certificate for you.

For Remote Online Notarization (RON)

  • A computer or tablet with a camera, microphone and a reliable internet connection
  • Your physical ID nearby for identity verification
  • Your document uploaded to the platform, or ready to send when requested
  • A quiet, private space where you can stay on camera for the whole session
  • No signatures in advance. All signatures, including on acknowledgments, are applied live during the recorded session

For Hospital, Nursing Home or Hospice Signings

The signer must be alert, able to communicate and understand what they are signing, and must sign willingly. Please confirm the signer has acceptable ID before booking. See hospital and nursing home notary services.

What a Notary Can’t Do

  • Give legal advice or choose a document for you
  • Notarize a signature for someone who isn’t present
  • Notarize a document that is incomplete or has blank spaces
  • Notarize for a signer who appears unwilling or unaware of what they are signing
